5550-6 “Peggotty’s Seaside Cottage”
This is the tan version of the Peggotty’s SeasideCottage and is part of
David Copperfield set of 3. It was introduced in 1989as an early release
to Showcase dealers. The tan version was the earlierof the two Seaside
Cottages. Its hull is not painted. Department 56stated that the green paint
it intended to use would not adhere to the porcelain. Theyreleased a limited
supply to the Showcase dealers anyway… The problem wasresolved by
using a different green paint… Dickens based hisversion of the cottage
on an actual boat-turned dwelling at the canal atGravesend.
This piece has been displayed just a few times in the26 years since it
was introduced. Has original box, tag and sleeve …
