This item is handcrafted from Russian 84 Silver which denotes 87.5 % pure silver marked by well known Russian nineteenth century assayer and silversmith, Lev Fedorovich Oleks, who was an assayer for many works by Faberge and Ovchinnikov. The stamps include: the Cyrillic initials L O denoting the assayer Lev Fedorovich Oleks, the date 1891, number 84 and faint round mark of what appears to be a worn Russian imperial double eagle stamp.
The object weighs 730 grams or 23.5 ounces and is 10 inches high.The object depicts three exquisite women holding up the Egg that opens to reveal a pirouetting Ballerina spinning among silver leaves around her feet. The silver interior of the dome behind the Ballerina frames her dancing to a soft Russian melody. Turn the Ballerina to wind the music box.
