A 19th Century Porcelain Lithopane in a Brass Frame, c. 1870
This is a fine 19th century porcelain lithopane of a small boy with his nanny and his dog. He has torn the knee out of his britches for which he seems to have been reprimanded.
He stands beside his nanny's chair while she mends the trousers, as he unhappily awaits their return.
The scene is rendered in a naturalistic fashion, with rich detailing in the clothing of the subject as and the objects and furnishings in the room.
The lithophane sits in a handsome, slim, footed brass frame.
This charming scene would make a wonderful addition to a collection of 19th century porcelain lithopanes.
Marked: On the lower right-hand corner " Made by R.R." with the double-R in a skillet-shaped outline. Further marked with a number "780". (pictured).
Measures: With frame: 15" H x 7" W. Lithopane only: 8" H x 6" W.
Excellent condition: No repairs, damage or restoration. (pictured).
