Rajasthan, Northern India -dating from the mid 19th century.A stunning very large and complete paan-dan, (betel compendium).
Hand constructed from beaten sheet brass and copper - this fine example contains the original covered boxes, lime vessel (with stand) and spittoon - also with stand. The accoutrements are arranged on a circular tray - locating within the base section.
The box has been skilfully hand raised and seamed - the whole assembly embellished with finely pierced jali-work. The hinged cover incorporates an ornate hasp and staple closure catch - both hinge and closure assembly copper riveted in place. A hinged central carry handle incorporates a twisted grip.
The surface has retained much of the original tinned finish.Overall diameter - 13 7/8\" (358mm).
Weight - 7.5 kg

Condition - Very Good, (untouched). A few very minor bruises (consistent with genuine age and usage). Fine natural colour and patina - a build-up of old metal polish residue present within the recesses and crevices.
