This magnificent 17th century Flemish tapestry depicting four figures within a landscape, the figures carrying a drum,flowers, a pheasant and a pouch woven with the inscription \'VIVE CONEI\', theborders with scrolling foliage and acanthus at the angles

In the 17th century Flemish tapestries were arguably the mostimportant productions, with many specimens of this era still extant,demonstrating the intricate detail of pattern and color embodied in painterlycompositions, often of monumental scale

‘Flemish tapestry’ at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuriesmeant primarily Brussels tapestry; the city had become the principal center fortapestry weaving, with a character and technique quite unlike that in otherworkshops. Novel characteristics too were the search for perfection,recognizablein the earliest works attributed, probably rightly, to Brussels,and a bias towards painting.
