This is a very rare type of large ceremonial spoon from Kulango ( very similar to the small abstract spoons that act as spoon and pounder ) or Akan people. Approx 19\" tall with a fine dry real patina. The base has been used as a pounder; clear evidence of use to this area... The reverse of the bowl has an engraved face with traces of pigments. Dry adze marks can be found. The overall open design pattern is excellent! This piece comes from an old NYC collection and was sold by important NYC dealer Bruce Frank many years ago.Please look at pictures closely, for these objects are on consignment and are not returnable..
