A LARGE 19th CENTURY VICTORIAN WALNUT INLAYED WRITING SLOPE-WITH SECRET DRAWERS

Offered for sale is this fine quality large antique 19th century Victorian walnut veneered writing slope box, having attractive inlayed banding in variety ofdifferent woods to the top and front (seephoto 8), and a brassescutcheon and cartouche, see photos.Internally the box is fitted with various compartments for pens, nibs, stamps and inkwells, and there is asecret drawer compartmentwhich are accessed when a spring loaded flap is released, see photos 5 & 6. The covered writing slopes arereplacement leather linings and when opened reveal paper storage areas which have a quality wood finish, see photo 7.

I believe this box to be all original (excludingthe leather linings to the slopes)includingthe brass hinges and lock which is in working order with a key. Please take time to study the photographs in order to gain anappreciationof this lovely box. Please note that the colour of the wood in the photos looks a bit \'orangey\' due to the flash of the camera.

Condition is commensuratewith age and use, but has no major damage, or previous repairs or veneer/inlay loss; there are a few minor surface knocks due to age/use, andthereis slighthair linecracking on the lid and to one side, see photos . Internallythe condition is fine except for a crack to one corner of the writingslopes(see photo 12) which has been glued at some time so it is stable and not lose.Pleasesee photographs for overallcondition.
