IT\'S IN EXCELLENT CONDITION THROUGHOUT

THIS IS A REALLY UNUSUAL EDWARDIAN MINATURE SILVER ITEM. RARELY FOUND IN SOLID FULLY HALLMARKED SILVER AND SILVER PIQUE SHELL. THESE NOTE PADS GO BACK TO THE GENTILE SOCIETY TIMES OF THE VICTORIAN/EDWARDIAN PERIOD. OFTEN CALLED A \'CARNE DE DANCE\'. THE PURPOSE WAS FOR THE SOCIETY BELLE TO WRITE THE NAMES DANCE PARTNERS ON THE FOUR BAKERLITE PAGES WITHIN ITS HINGED INTERIOR THE NOTEBOOK COULD BE WORN ON A CHATELAINE, OR KEPT IN A PURSE OR EVENING BAG.
This notebook has has a beautiful silver pique floral spray inlaid into the polished shell FRONT. The back page is of solid polished shell with no silver inlay. Centre top is a long silver bail. This articulates on a rivet that holds the notebook together, including shell front and back and four bakerlite notebook pages within. Silver top bail is fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1907. The bail top has an aperture on 5 mm at widest. (See inset pictures of these marks).
Lion Passant for sterling silver, Anchor for Birmingham assay office and low case date letter \'h\' for 1907. Maker\'s mark is L&S.
This little item is rare and made even more so by the fact of its in excellent condition. There shell surfaces are well polished with no scratches or blemishes of any kind on both shell and silver surfaces. The inside bakerlite pages are NOT spoilt in any way.
