Description:

A GREAT AMERICAN EXAMPLE OF AN 18TH CENTURY LATE QUEEN ANNE MIRROR IN NICE OLD CHERRY STAINED SURFACE AND PATINA RETAINING ITS ORIGINAL SILVERED MIRROR AND BACKBOARD. American, Circa 1740-1760 in RARE CHERRY VENEER with an Eastern White Pine back and frame.

STRAIGHT FROM A GREAT EARLY CONNECTICUT COLLECTION.

Great Scrolled Top and Bottom Crests as well as scrolled ears. It still retains its original pine backboard and all of the original back glue blocks and support arms.

The mirror glass is original. It has the typical foxing throughout.
The original pine backboard is intact and was covered in the 19th century with paper to keep out the dust and mites.

IT IS VERY RARE TO FIND AN AMERICAN EXAMPLE FROM THIS PERIOD. THE USE OF A NATIVE CHERRY VENEER ON AN EasterN WHITE PINE BASE SHOWS ITS ORIGINS.

Nice old CHERRY color and patina.

In the mid 19th century, someone added a sheet brass eagle to the top crest. This was probably to mimic the Chippendale versions with the attached plaster eagles. It has been on the piece for around 150 years and has taken on a nice old patina. It could easily be removed if you want.

Similar examples can be found and discussed in, \"Furniture Treasury\", by Wallace Nutting, and \"Early American Antique Country Furnishings , by George Neumann.

The condition is very nice. There is a minor old glue repair to the bottom left ear and an old crack in the top left ear.

29 1/2\" HIGH, 15 1/2\" WIDE, GLASS IS 18 1/2\" BY 11\"

Typical wear associated with the age of the item. See photos.
