An Egypt Medal 1882-89 with two claps SUAKIN 1885 and TOFREK to
5808 PTE.H.KEY. M.S.CORPS
With service papers that show Henry Key served with the medical staff corps and was wounded in action \"near Suakin on 22nd March 1885\" almost certainly at the Battle of Tofrek. His casualty medical record also shows that on that date he was admitted to hospital suffering from a spear wound to the right shoulder spending 13 days there recovering. Judging by the nature of his wound he must have been in the thick of the battle and unusually for a member of the medical staff in hand to hand combat with the Mahdist forces.
Of note only 17 men of the Medical Staff Corps were present at Tofrek and suffered casualties of 2 killed and 4 wounded.
