Printed in England by Ballantyne & Company Ltd., as stated on the last page, boasting in all 13 color plates and 14 in-text black-and-white drawings, handsomely bound in the original publisher\'s decorated binding.Rackham\'s work is often described as a fusion of a northern European \'Nordic\' style strongly influenced by the Japanese woodblock tradition of the early 19th century. Complete as issued. One of Rackham’s scarcer titles. With many of the artist’s bestloved and most easily recognized paintings, masterfully crafted. Arthur Rackham is considered one of the great artists from the Golden Age of illustration. He was in a special league with other hugely talented illustrators such as Edmund Dulac, Kay Nielsen and W. Heath Robinson. Rackham\'s work continues to inspire and influence legions of artists. His first edition books are extremely collectible. Arthur Rackham(19 September 1867 – 6 September 1939) was an English book illustrator. Rackham was born in London as one of 12 children. At the age of 18, he worked as a clerk at the Westminster Fire Office and began studying part-time at theLambeth School of Art. In 1892 he quit his job and started working forThe Westminster Budgetas a reporter and illustrator. His first book illustrations were published in 1893 inTo the Other Sideby Thomas Rhodes, but his first serious commission was in 1894 forThe Dolly Dialogues, the collectedsketchesofAnthony Hope, who later went on to writeThe Prisoner of Zenda. Book illustrating then became Rackham\'s career for the rest of his life. In 1903 he marriedEdyth Starkie, with whom he had one daughter, Barbara, in 1908. Rackham won a gold medal at theMilan International Exhibitionin 1906 and another one at theBarcelona International Expositionin 1912. His works were included in numerous exhibitions, including one at theLouvrein Paris in 1914. Arthur Rackham died 1939 ofcancerin his home inLimpsfield,Surrey.
