Background

The unique design of the Chinese coin reflected the round sky covering the square earth. This concept was adopted from the very first ancient Chinese coin. In addition, the design also enabled civilians to string them together in bulk for easy carrying. Unlike ancient roman coins which were struck, those Chinese coins were cast in a mould. The Chinese had minted coins like these for centuries.
