Antique Victorian Era Hand Painted Easter Egg With Baby Duckling Inside For Sale
This Easter Egg from the Victorian/Edwardian era is in amazingly good condition for its age and it is also intact. (Please see photos 1 & 2 that show small, slightly darkened stains on the silk cover). I believe it to be papier mache egg and it is covered in silk. There is a hand painted robin on the top of the egg cover. Interior has paper lining as seen in photo 3 and has the original open work paper trim all around the edge. Then, there is an incredible, furry little duckling with original tiny paper flowers and original bow around its neck. Two colors of fine paper strips create an upper and lower nest for the duckling. There is a small cord at top which, I assume, could be used to hang it for display. Many eggs done in this manner were made in Germany, but there are no marks or indications of its origin. It measures 6 3/8" long x 4 1/2" wide (diameter). Top and bottom fit together very securely. So you can more accurately determine size, it is 14" in circumference. Postage $4.00 first class.
