Description:

An extremely fine quality set of five French 19th Century solid silver grapefruit spoons with bright cut engraved decoration to the handles, manufactured in France circa 1838. The back of each handle is engraved with the initials \'JE\'.

The elongated bowls, typical for use to each fruit, are hallmarked with the French Minerva Head guarantee mark for 800 fineness silver, and a makers mark with the letter \'R\'. The reverse of each bowl is also marked with silver mark of a beetle (Pantatome), which ceased to be used in 1838. One spoon bears the makers mark for Armand Fresnais.
