This sale is for an all originalFrench mignonette doll dressed as a hussar soldier with his ivory hobby horse.
He stands 4 3/4\" (12cm) tall including his hat.
He is all original and in great condition for his age.He is made around 1890. There are no chips or cracks on him.He has a swiveled head and jointed arms and legs.He has large cobalt blue inset eyes. His face coloring is also very nice.His cute curly mohair wig is still glued onto his head. His hat is also sewed onto his wig.It s very hard to tell but I think there is a number \"4\" on the back of his head.I see no other makers mark.The last photo in the photos, I scanneda part of thepage from The Encyclopedia of French Dolls book.The picture shows the little soldier doll with the exact same uniform and hat!
His uniform is fantastically made and very detailed.There is a small hole /tear on his red pants in back around his buttocks.Also a black strap that connects his right boot to his waist line is missing.His neck collar has a small brown stain.
He comes with his own ivory hobby horse.The horse is 3 1/4\" (8cm) long.The hobby horse is as old asthe soldieris and it very well can be his original horse.
I found some reference photos and pasted them below.I put the tiny birdfeather on his hat for fun as other \"real\" soldiers seemed to have it too.I don\'t know if you want it, but I will include it with him as well as the stand.
