Up for sale is this old, unframed oil on canvas painting, attributed by the listed American artist, Joseph John Englehart. Please excuse any glare in the photos. This original oil painting depicts a landscape of trees; a man walks along a dirt path, and there are mountains beyond. The painting measures approximately 16 inches by 20 inches. Unpacked, this piece weighs approximately 13 ounces. This painting would make a great addition to a collection of antique fine art.Identification
This painting is attributed to the well-known, listed artist, Joseph John Englehart (1867-1915). At the lower right, the pseudonym \"DELANE\" appears. Based on my experience in owning many Joseph John Englehart paintings over the years, this example is attributed to Englehart. He produced unsigned paintings, paintings with his name spelled in different ways, and paintings that had pseudonyms, including Delane (and others). Adding to the confusion caused by Englehart\'s use of pseudonyms is the fact that there was indeed another contemporaneous painter named John Delane. My Englehart attribution is based on the brush strokes, paint colors, and a general, overall Englehart-like composition and style.Joseph John Englehart (1867-1915) is a listed artist with listings in Edan Hughes\' Artists in California 1786-1940 and on AskART. Per Hughes, Englehart was born in Chicago in 1867. During the 1880s and 1890s, he lived in Alameda, California, with a studio in San Francisco. He also painted in Washington and Oregon around the turn of the twentieth century. By 1910, Englehart was residing in Alameda again. He passed away in Oakland in 1915. This circa late 19th century to early 20th century painting is undated.Condition
The painting is unframed. When held to a bright light, some thin areas where light passes through are visible (where there is craquelure or flaked paint). There are a couple of tiny touch-ups in the lower right quadrant. There is some edge wear (including minor fraying to the left edge) and edge soiling which would normally be covered by a frame. There are a few small paint flakes, some fine craquelure, and minor surface soiling. Please review the photos, and ask any questions you may have prior to offerding or buying. Terms of Sale 1. Before merchandise is shipped to a California address (or picked up or delivered within California), sales tax will be collected, unless the buyer provides a properly completed and valid California resale certificate form by mail (or in person, in the case of pick up or delivery). The buyer must prepay before merchandise is released. Paypal payments over $250 will only be accepted if delivery is to an address with a confirmed status. Contact the seller in advance of offerding or buying to find out about accepted payment methods for local pick ups or deliveries. Payments must be received within three days of the end of the listing, unless prior arrangements have been made. 3. Shipping and Handling
Good packaging is included; double-boxing is not included. Framed art will not be shipped unframed. The seller typically ships on Mondays and Thursdays, unless a holiday or special circumstance precludes it. If payment is via Paypal, the merchandise will be shipped on the seller\'s next shipping day after payment clears. The seller is not responsible for the transit time once the merchandise has been accepted by the shipping carrier. Economy shipping within the U.S. includes delivery to a physical address via an economy shipping method of the seller\'s choice. At the discretion of the seller, a faster shipping method may be utilized at no additional cost to the buyer. If the buyer prefers a different shipping method other than that chosen by the seller, or if delivery is to a post office box, additional shipping and handling costs may be required. A signature will be required for delivery if the total Paypal payment for merchandise inside the parcel is greater than $250. If international shipping is available, this will be indicated on the \"Shipping and Payments\" tab. International shipping is not free for the buyer; shipping costs are not negotiable. Shipping quotes must be requested prior to all international offerding or buying. The seller will determine the international shipping method(s).
