ANTIQUE CHINESE IMPERIAL AMBER PEKING GLASS VASE - QIANLONG MARK & PERIOD 18th C:

We are excited to offer a very fine Qianlong Glass Vase. The vase has been masterfully made to imitate the appearance of crizzled amber, a result that was achieved by overlaying two colors of bubble-suffused glass. Such techniques of using one material to imitate the look and appearance of another material was very much in vogue during the Qianlong reign. The vase stands on a recessed foot which is marked with a very finely incised four-character Qianlong Mark. The characters of the mark are superbly incised, a feat that required greater skill with an 18th century grinding wheel. The vase is very stunning!

PROVENANCE

This vase comes to us from the Dagan Collection. Emma Dagan started collecting Chinese art in the 1960s. She and her husband hadimpeccable and elegant taste for fine Chinese antiques, purchasing from well-known retailers such as Nagatani. Eventually Emma\'s passion would lead her to assume the role of Executive Director of the Pacific Asia Museum in California.

The vase, as part of the Dagan Glass Collection, has been exhibited at two individual museums, the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco 1995-1996 & the Los Angeles County Museum of Art 1998.

The vase was published in C.F. Shangraw and C. Brown, \"A Chorus of Colors: Chinese Glass from Three AmericanCollections\", Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, 1995, p. 70, no. 42.
