DESCRIPTION
You are offerding on an antique Gutta Purcha boxed tintype photograph of a young, well dressed gentleman in the era of the Civil War.
The man is unbearded, with moderately long hair; as is more the custom of the Union men. The man has rouged cheeks; (the color being applied to the tintype after photographing).
The gentleman is wearing a Civil War era coat with a felt like collar, and a vest over a white, collared blouse. He sports a black bow tie.
DIMENSIONS
The size of the box isi2.5 x 2.88 x 0.5 inches.The weight of the box is 1.6 ounces. The design was meant for easy personal carry in a purse. Mementos of this nature were made to remind a loved one of their absence, and were usually kept by the wife in her husband\'s wartime absence.
CONDITION
The exterior of the box is in excellent condition, merely showing normal age wearing on the edges and corners. There are no missing parts to the clasp. The hinge area is fully bound and intact. The box is pressed with the same pattern on both front and back. The interior of the box left side, opposite of the tintype, is cushioned with an impressed pattern. It fits into the opposite right side above the gold foil mat, with an oval opening. The gold foil mat surrounding the picture is heavily impressed, bright and shiny, with extensive decorative art work. The glass above the photo is intact and unscratched.
