Chatelaine Peppermint Box

On offer here is this very charming mid 19th Century Dutch 833 standard solid silver Peppermint or pill box, originally fitted with chain and finger ring or hook to facilitate suspension from a Chatelaine.The piece bears Dutch hallmarks to the base and lid and is applied a shield shaped reserve to the front. It has a rope twist ring handle at each end, this type of box often having a removable chain with finger ring for wearing to the opera, promenading, etc.The piece is stamped to the base and to the rim of the lid with an assay stamp of a rampant lion, denoting 833 parts to the 1000 silver, together with an indistict makers mark and further stamps to the rim of the hinged lid.

This box is fundamentally in sound condition though given that it would have been carried about extensively on outings has acquired a few dents here and there, a point readily observable in our attached images above and below.1¾\" (4.4 cm) high x 1¾\" (4.4 cm) wide
