Antique Eastern Catholic or Orthodox crucifix cast from a brass-like copper alloy. Good antique condition, slightly bent, scratched, and worn out likely due to devotional wearing by several generations of Christians. Has a tiny deep scratch or a crack across the left arm of Christ. Could have been worn as a pectoral crucifix by an Orthodox or Catholic layman, a deacon or a priest. Crucifix pendants of similar design are known as artifact from 18th-19th century.
The style of the crucifix uniquely combines a Latin-style cross with a somewhat simplified depiction of theCorpus of Christ with a distinct round halo around His head. Just above Christ\'s head, there is a symbolic depiction of God the Father Almighty as a triangle emitting rays of light. This symbol is heavily worn out. The crucifixion is depicted according to the Byzantine tradition (Feet are nailed separately). Such a tradition would normally depict the Crucifixion on a Suppedaneum (Byzantine three-bar cross that is used in the Orthodox and some Eastern Catholic churches).An example of such parallel, separate placement of the Feet of Christ can be found on some early Roman Catholic crucifixes originating from the Byzantine tradition (for example, the 12th century San Damiano Cross).
