ITEM: Youare offerding on a pair of antique original C. 1920s Art Deco Egyptian revival in design aesthetic cast iron bookends. These are really handsome and well articulated with original surface finish and a warm patina, a beautiful set of bookends in a stylistic idealized exotic modernist art deco manner. These are tombs essentially and are adorned with scarabs and Egyptian symbols.
The Paris Exhibition in 1925 focused primarily on the Art Deco movement in France. However, the discovery of Tutankhamun\'s tomb in November of 1922 spawned a worldwide fascination with all things Egyptian, further contributing to the evolving aesthetic of Art Deco. Egyptomania, as it came to be known, spread throughout the globe like wild fire and influenced everything from architecture to jewelry to furniture. Hence, we recognize the classic Egyptian Ziggurat (staggered tier/zigzag/pyramid shape) as a classic Art Deco motif. An ideal pair for any bookend enthusiast or collector.

CONDITION: These rare antique metal bookends are in very good condition, the surface is original and exhibits a nice untouched warm patina as seen with some losses scuffing roughness and irregularities primarily in the top they also have some white oxidation in the crevices and corners that could be cleaned with a cotton swab -- the pair sit flush and flat and present very well.
