\"METTLACH STONEWARE STEIN, VILLEROY & BOCH, 1892, #2049, CHESSBOARD AND KNIGHT: Pewter rim and thumb lift.Etched 1/2 L. Chessboard and knight pieces. Inlay lid. Villeroy & Boch Mettlach Stein.

Thestein decorated with \"SCHACH DEM KONIGE\" pattern (CHESS THE CONCEPT). The stein depicts a chess board with a knight on each side. The stein is 8 ¼ inches tall to the top of the pewter thumbpress. The thumbpress is in the shape of a grotesque mask. Theinlay lidof the stein says Ludorum Ludus and has four crowns. The stein has a ½ liter mark on the side...

The lid has the inscription \"Ludus ludorum\", the game of games, and on the body\"Schach dem König\", chess to the king... I\'m not sure that the translation is entirely accurate, this is from my research on the internet.
