Gorgeous antique Cretan silver dagger called \"Mikroboulianaki\". Beside of the large size formen,this types and handle shapedaggers were producedonly in thespecific island of Crete, and no examples exist from any other part of Greece or of the World.It\'s unique shape reminiscent of a dart and these blades are unique this island and are an intrinsic part of the culture.The specific small size daggers wasespecially produced in order to be a present of a man to a woman, during the engagement ceremony, as after that, wearing the daggerat her waist, it was a sample ofcommitment, so other men have no any right to proceedher for anyreason. This tradition continues till today in Crete, so these daggers are very famous worldwide and a creation for a new dagger despite the highcost, as need many hours hand made work for both the repoussesheath and also for the blade andhandle,could not reach the quality of the old examples.The sheath has a high quality work with floral motif and the figure of crete island and the endof it is a figure head of dolphin or sea monster.The handle was made of cow bone, which with the appropriate processing takes abright white color called \" Aspromaniko \". The men\'s larger size daggers were used for selfdefense and for wedding ceremoniesand generally as a decorative part of the special Cretan dressing. At the Ottoman period many Cretan Turks used to carry this daggerwhich was inspired from the Persian origin \"Kard\" type dagger but in any case was a Cretan special type dagger.This specific dagger have a gorgeous one side engraved blade with a Cypress tree and dated 1907 at the base, including a Hoopoebird figure standing at the top of the tree and at theconjunctionpoint two very nice engraved silver ornaments existing.It is an example of the highest quality, in very goodcondition and very rare to find it at this prices in the Antique shops.These high quality daggers were made only afterspecial order and always demand a very high cost and in any case could not never be compare with the new producing for tourist souvenir reason which are of low quality as both the blade but especially the silverornaments and sheath are made with pressing procedure instead of hand made.Today the old productions of high quality Cretan daggers are very rare to find and very expensive to buy them as they are unique.Total length 190mmBlade length 100mmWeight 67gr
