ANTIQUE HANDEL CAST BRASS/BRONZE LAMP BASE; 3 EARLY HUBBELL SOCKETS; Duffner Era:
$579.00

For sale is an early Handel lamp base in cast brass or bronze. This lamp baseis not pot metal. A scratch to the underside reveals ayellow metal underneath.(Paul Crist\'s book, Mosaic Shades, at p. 125, col. 2, and 127, col. 1, says that early Handel lamps were made of brass, but that it was discontinued in favor of pot metal (spelter) which was easier to work with.)This is the same cast column and bottom ball that is on the other Handel lamp that I have listed on .
The lamp base stands24 1/2 inchestall. The pierced style base is 7 1/4 inches in diameter.
This lamp base has three intact 1902 Hubbell sockets. Each socket is in working conditionand has its original porcelaininterior and 8 1/2 inch chain with an acorn fob. The heat cap has the crescent moon design. At some time in the recent past, the lamp was rewired with period correct cloth cord (brown) and has an old Levitron plug.
Since listing the lamp, I found a picture of it in \"The Handel Lamp Book\" by Hibel, Hibel & Fontaine at p. 141 with Handel shade 6868 Birds in Flight.
Please check out the photos above which are the best corroboration ofthis lamps written description.
