ANTIQUE JAMES DIXON & SONS – SHEFFIELD PEWTER TEAPOT :
$226.41

The most beautiful ‘pumpkin’ shaped pewter teapotwith open work handle and feet by James Dixon & Sons. There are eight ‘segments’with raised ridges, which give the form of a pumpkin. It stands on four feetwhich are all attached to the pot with ornate, almost Art Nouveau, scrolling. The handle is open work and has two bone inserts to insulate the handle andprevent it getting too hot to hold. The lid is finished with a beautifullycrafted bramble leaf and blackberry; this finial is fixed to the lid with awing nut, a replacement for the original one I assume. The hinge is inexcellent condition and the lid opens, closes and fits perfectly. There are nodents or dings, but obviously there is surface scratching (please look at thephotos and ask me for more if you need them). Searching on the internet forinformation about possible age, I saw that James Dixon & Sons, written inone line with Sheffield below, as on the underside of this teapot, gives thedate of 1851 – 1879. Also underneath there is what must be the design/ patternnumber ‘71953’, then a number 4, possibly indicating ‘4 cups’, however there isalso a number 50!!! It measure 26½cm at the widest point (from spout tohandle) and is 16cm high top the top of the handle (the highest point).

Thanks for looking.
