DESCRIPTION:This fabulous and very handsome period, mid-19th century English Bird\'s Eye maple frame, features its original mitered corners and gilt gold liner. The old glass is also original to the frame, as is the steel engraved print. The entire package is original and was most likely produced prior to the US Civil War between 1840-1860. These figured maple frames, either Bird\'s Eye maple or Tiger Maple, were quite popular in the United Kingdom, as they were largely used to frame hunting prints and genre steel engravings of the period. They made their way over to the United States and found their way into many early American homes. The glass was very carefully cleaned and the Bird\'s Eye maple frame wiped down with fine organic teak oil to remove all dirt, dust and debris and moisturize the wood. The gold gilt liner is nearly perfect and the frame doesn\'t have any smashed corners and only perhaps the slightest bruise on the margin underneath on the bottom. The maple wood just glows and has the same rich finish as period maple furniture. Great.

CONDITION:Very Good to Excellent overall vintage condition. It has not been opened. It still has its original wavy glass, gilt liner and figured maple frame, and hasn\'t been altered or cut down. The period English print is original to the frame. All is untouched and unmolested. Only the outside of the glass was carefully cleaned and the bird\'s eye maple frame wiped down with fine organic teak oil to remove dust and debris and to moisturize the wood after nearly 175 years.
