This is a remarkable and impressive folio, very rare. Large volume, profusely illustrated with 54 full colour lithograph plates under captioned monogrammed tissues, some with silver and gold ink highlights, each on a cream mount, edged with a deep plate mark, additionally, decorative title page with a small lithograph and other decorative vignettes and drawings, in addition, a portrait of Leon Bakst by Picasso. A magnificent work.

Book: Bakst: L`Oeuvre de Leon Bakst pour La Belle au Bois Dormant. Issued by M. de Brunoff, in Paris, 1922, in large format. Contents on handmade paper, with illustrations comprising 54 separately printed and mounted full page lithographs under monogrammed tissues, other small lithographs, drawings and vignettes in the text. Works in set design and costume design. ( See Puss in Boots, Carabas, Russian Buffoon and other characters...). Text in French. Signed by Leon Bakst and his publisher on the limitation page, this edition is of 500 copies only. Very rare thus. The size of this impressive folio is approx. 39cm X 29cm X 6cm . The text is on untrimmed, or rough-cut paper with two uncut edges and straight upper edge. This is one of the most beautiful and impressive art folios we have had the pleasure to behold in our time. Interesting and insightful text. Please see the photographs for a selection of the images and contents. Please see also the images of the mounted lithograph edge and the deep plate mark, this is a high-quality printed work. Decorative title and portrait of Bakst by Modigliani. Book condition: Externally, the original plain glassine wrapper with tears and losses, but present. The inner paper wrapper with light folds and marks, and some separation and wear at head and foot of spine. Small scratch mark under the title on the inner paper wrapper. Internally, the contents are very NR FINE. Light folds to some tissues, slight bump to middle of the paper edges at lower edge ( very slight, please see photos of this and of the light folds to some tissues.). No detracting marks whatsoever, contents are clean and bright without any notable. All of the heliogravures and lithographs are in pristine, fine condition. There are no bookplates or inscriptions, clean, bright, lovely copy. A superb gift and investment quality folio on Leon Bakst, certain to please and to impress.
