ANTIQUE RARE SAINT MANDE MINIATURE SPACED CONCENTRIC MILLEFIORI GLASS DOORKNOB-PAPERWEIGHT ON CLEAR GROUND

Out for offer is this nice miniature glass doorknob-paperweight dated from the Classic Period ( 1845 – 1860 ). A beautiful spaced concentric glass doorknob-paperweight by the important French factory of Saint-Mande. The clear glass set with two spaced rings of assorted brightly coloured millefiori composite canes featuring very delicate six point mini-stars in red, white and yellow alternating with blue, green and white and an outer ring in green, red and white alternating with cobalt-blue, green, white and yellow around a complex central millefiori cane of twenty delicate six point red and white stars around a tiny green center cane; in clear ground. The glass knob is set into the original brass mount. The square brass shaft is present. Measuring approx. 2 in. ( 5.1 cm. ) in diameter by 3.75 in. ( 9.5 cm. ) in length until the end of the shaft. I am not 100% sure but it seems that the stem-like glass part that sits into the brass mount was broken at some point and the weight is bound or glued back directly into the mount; though the glass weight apparently has been slightly re-polished. Other than that it is still a beautiful and delicate doorknob-paperweight of rare origin. A very nice and colourful miniature glass doorknob-paperweight manufactured in France mid 19th Century, circa 1850s.
