FEATURED: A stunning, rare, antique GESSO BARBOLA FLORAL TABLE LAMP, with its original Gesso Barbola-work Wicker Lampshade and equally impressive Gesso Barbola-work table base. Probably made in France in the early 1900\'s when this work was popular on elegant furniture and room accessories, all imported from France. With this beautiful item, the shade was made from wicker, which was gessoed, painted an antique pale pink and then had a detailed variety of flowers and leaves applied around the top crown as well as the around the sides of the wicker shade, creating a wonderful airy,unusual, elegant shade, perfect for any lady\'s parlor or boudoir. The shade sits on a tall Gessoed Barbola-work base, covered with detailed Gesso Barbola leaves, flower clusters and flower swags down the stem, as well as Barbola yellow tassels, and dots around the base. The shade and base are original to each other. A most unusual creation to have so much detailed floral and leaf work done all over the lamp...It is a real tour de force of its genre; we have not seen another complete lamp like this anywhere at all...ever.
Roses and rosebuds, spring yellow and blue flowers, several different leaves, in high three-dimensional relief make this lamp an exceptional example of this art form, and in rare condition. All the flowers and leaves, details look to be original, but we do not know if any restoration was ever done; if so, it was many years ago and very skillfully so. The lining was replaced prior to our purchase, and is removeable, but does add a softness to the light from the lamp,which has two light sockets. This is a unique, absolutely lovely item, which you are sure to cherish for the rest of your life...stunning in any decor and room, this beauty will surely get many great compliments for you, and make your nights all the more romantic and lovely.
Measures: 27 inches tall from table to top of shade, not including finial (which is not original to lamp). Shade is 16.5 inches in diameter at the bottom, and 8 inches across the top crown, and is 8 inches tall. The base is 8 inches in diameter at its foot. Minor age-related slight separation at stem to base where gesso has cracked slightly. Also minor paint wear and tiny chips here and there on Gesso Barbola decorations, age-related. Several leaves and flowers have different coloring, but as this work is all hand-formed and painted, we do not know if it is original variations or an early repair. Item is in fabulous antique condition and really a gorgeous scarce piece.
