This is a superb Stereographic Graphoscope Viewer. It is based on 1864 patent of Charles John Rowsell. This one is a simpler arrangement which includes the the stereo and graphoscope lenses in a single housing which makes it easier to use than the earlier model. This type became popular in the 1890s.The lenses are housed on a platform which is hinged to the base. The lower lenses are for stereo use and are each 1 inch in diameter. The graphoscope lens is 3.5 inches in diameter. All lenses are in lovely clear condition. At the rear of the platform is a hinged photograph holder. The platform is designed to raise to 3 different levels. all parts fold flat for storage. The wood is a very good mahogany, which enhances the the quality of this lovely item. When folded the base measures 9.25 x 5.5 inches.
