MAGNIFICENT 1920\'s / Early 1930\'s Beauty

From The Art Deco Period in its Height of Modern Elegance Design Aesthetic 

This is a rare lamp and significant in the fact that this style or design model was used as the inspiration for a series of reproduction Art Deco units built for and marketed by Neiman Marcus in the 1990\'s.

Copying is the ultimate form of flattery! 

This is obviously an Original as shown in the use of materials, hand manufacturing techniques, and period correct metal weight and construction.

Construction Review:

Fine cast metal. The wood sphere was carved from a solid piece of wood and is likely cherry. Brass is utilized for the footing and the base is cut from the same cherry wood as the sphere.

This lamp is very heavy for its size estimated at 15lbs. Obviously the materials used contribute and also, upon removing the lamp post shaft, discovering that it is designed with interior counter weights.

NEEDS REPAIR BEFORE USING

This lamp was re-wired at some point and the overall quality of the job was poor. The post shaft extends a little past the base creating a seating issue. It is not of current polarized or UL specification and should be taken to a repair shop and corrected with wiring and trimming or replacement of the shaft.

As Pictured:

1.Some minor scratching to Wood Sphere

2. The Orbital of the Sphere has a break in the metal. (Please See Photo\'s - Likely Missing a 1/2\" of Rod and Cannot Be Welded Back.)

3. It does not seat properly due the shaft thread protruding lower than the base. There is an overall looseness to the threaded connections.

4. Re-wire to current standards. For safety and to prevent electric shock. The wiring casing is a bit worn near the base egress point.
