DescriptionUp for sale is a rare, vintage 10 1/2\" Service Plate made for Fred Harvey, famous for his eating houses along the Santa Fe Railroad where patrons were served by his infamous Harvey Girls & for running the dining car service on the Santa Fe Railroad.
Pattern FH-4.2 COCHINO EAGLE DANCER as referenced & shown in Richard Luckin\'s DINING ON RAILS AN ENCYCLOPEDIA OF RAILROAD CHINA pg. 412. This rarely seen pattern features a wide green band with a blue & green Cochino Eagle Dancer in center & Fred Harvey logo below it.
Often called Kachina or Katsina, the Hopi Indians of the Southwest would make dolls to help teach their children about the Kachinas who were messengers between theirs & the spirit world. The Kachina dolls they made are very sought after today also.
Plate is in good condition with one shallow approx. 1/4\" rim chip as shown at approx. the 5 o\'clock position. Otherwise the plate is in nice condition with a few tiny underglaze specks & very few use marks. Shiny glaze surface. Marked on the back as shown with the Jackson China Falls Creek, Pa backstamp. Rare piece & looks gorgeous as it is despite the small rim chip.
Jackson China of Falls Creek, Pennsylvania was one of the major US suppliers of medium & heavy-weight commercial restaurant ware topmarked logo china to railroads, steamships, airlines, hotels & diners and company cafeterias as well as all branches of the US Military and other government institutions.
