This is a display of approximately 13 x 17 inches (including frame) of a photograph and guaranteed authentic signature of William Lloyd Garrison, one of the top white abolitionists in the mid-19th century.
The photo gallery has a closeup of each item in the display. The signature is on a small card. The picture is one of him near the end of his life.
The autograph has been authenticated by Weekes Autographs, member UACC and The Manuscript Society. See photos for confirmation.
Garrison, born in 1805, became an abolitionist when of college age. In 1831, he founded The Liberator, a strongly anti-slavery newspaper published in Boston, which had a sizable pro-slave faction. He once was seized at his office by a mob denouncing abolition, and only the intervention of the mayor spared him tar and feathers or death.
The Liberator also was pro-female, allowing blacks of both genders to write for it. The paper had a healthy circulation, and Garrison wrote books and founded anti-slavery societies, too. He died in 1879.
I am offering several autographs of major African-American leaders and other abolitionists as well, so please check with my store.
