These formerly pristine white gloves were carefully placedin Lincoln’s left pocket on the fateful night of April 14, 1865, when theassassin’s bullet found his head. When the bullet, fired from the gun of JohnWilkes Booth, struck Lincoln at Ford’s Theater, the gloves were tarnished withthe blood of one of the greatest presidents in American history.

His wife Mary Todd Lincoln kept them as a remembrance of her losthusband.
