Alaskan Artifact - Eskimo Inuit Indian - Vintage Fish Spear Tip No.3
The Inuit people hunted seals, walruses, Arctic trout, Arctic char, polar bears and caribou, The Inuit Indian lived regularly off of eating seals, fish and caribou. For obvious reasons, the hunting of different animals required different tools. This is an exceptionally nice fish spear tip to be made from wood. Please examine the photos carefully as they are a good deal of the overall description, Most likely this was used for fishing of some type of smaller animal. *This appears to be a complete tip.
Note: There were as many designs of Spear tips as Carter had liver pills. I have personally seen no less than 20-30 variations made from bone, ivorey and wood. I have no remote count on how many variations of metal trade points are documented or slate spear tips that are documented.
Overall Length: 3.01\" Height: .265\" Thickness: .452\"
This bone spear tip has a hole drill in it to affix it to a shaft for throwing. I don\'t know enough about their culture to know when the use of long bows was first introduced. It could be possible, but I think this artifact pre-dates the use of long bows. The leather that is on it was dried and hardened when I obtained it so I have not bothered to remove it.Apparently this one was not used as much as some I have seen, but it is authentic and in near mint condition. I stand behind what I sell and if you are not satisfied you have two weeks to return it.
Over the next month I will be listing some of my finest Eskimo Fishing Artifacts to help pay for my portion of surgery. As most are aware, the insurance in the US is not the greatest. I hate to part with the items, but I consider it a passing of the torch to the next generation of collectors. I stand behind all of my artifacts. No illegal activity was performed in making or obtaining any whether they\'re Artic or the lower 48 states. I have simple to the elaborate lure, decoys, goggles, gaffs, hooks, snow blades, spears, toggles, arrows, fish bouys and harpoon heads. All are in above average to extremely nice condition and have come from countries from around the world.

NOTE:In compliance to the Endangered Species Act of 1973 (16 U.S.C. 1531-1544, 87 Stat. 884), as amended -- Public Law 93-205, approved December 28, 1973, no item listed was made from an endangered mammal, fish, reptile, bird or plant on the endangered list. Any reference to the use of bone on my listings are animals native to Alaska, such as Caribou and Moose. No bone was retreived from an endangered species. Any wood used in artifacts for sale was made from woodnative to Alaska and known as Red Cedar or Alaskan Cedar (Chamaecyparis nootkatensis).
