Meakin13 Piece Tea/Coffee Set

Avintage tea/coffeeset which comprises of sixdemitasse size cups andsaucerswith atea/coffee pot,manufactured byEnglish companyAlfred Meakinduring the Art Deco Period.
The pot can be used for loose tea leaves as there arestrainer holes inside the pot, situated at the spout. The set is quite elegant and the colouring hasthe popularcobalt blue on white. Little orange flowers and swags add lots of colour and the set is embellished with lots of gold trim.
There is some damage, but not so visible... The set actually looks better than you would think. The coffee pot lid has a teeny chip to the knob and a small chip to the base. One cup has sustained a small crack to the base and one saucer has a hairline crack.
The good news is that none of it is very visible. There is some fine crazing here and there and a little wear to the gold which is common with china of this age.
Otherwise the set is in great condition, colours are still bright and the set presents very well.

Note: Founded in themid 1870\'s, the Alfred Meakin potteries was situated in Tunstall, Staffordshire, an area reknowned for pottery production since the early 1700\'s. Thecompany had been run by various connected family members right up until the 1970\'s. Early on, exports to the USA was a large part of the business. In 1890, to promote the company and their US retailers, Alfred manufactured the largest teapots in the world, a feat not able to be reproduced today!
The teapots held about 700 cups of tea... imagine that!Only 3 have survived to the present day...
