J.P. Kayser Sohn Silver Plated Pewter 'Satyr & Irises' Pitcher. Art Nouveau Era.:
$150.00

For your consideration is an original Art Nouveau silver plated pewter pitcher embellished with the visage of a horned, bearded Saytr smiling maniacally between two highly stylized Irises. This piece was designed by German artist Hugo Levin
(b.1874 - d. 1956)
The manufacturers mark and number (see photo) indicates it was made between 1895-96.Hugo Levin was active as lead designer of J.P. Kayser Sohn of Krefeld-Bockum und Koln, Germany, where this beautiful piece was made, from 1895 to 1904. Conditionally, the pitcher has seen some regular use through its 120 years, as the detailed photo's above, which show all sides, can attest. The only actual damage is shown in the last photo. It's a 2cm closed tear that looks the same on the other side at the center of the spout. Looks like it's been there for a while. Thankfully, the years have been kind in leaving most of the silver coating intact. Interestingly, the fingerprints of the worker that put the coating of silver on is visible at the base.In the photo showing the entire base of the pitcher, you'll notice a discoloration at 5 o'clock. It's just a tool mark most likely done at the factory. The pitcher measures 12.5" tall at the handle and weighs 3lbs - 6oz
(1530 grams). Worldwide shipping includes delivery confirmation/tracking number.I ship very fast.
I pack very well.
Cheers!
