BoffinBeads Vintagehas on offer a handsome pair of earrings made with ancient Roman/Medieval garnet gemstone beads and glass \'paste\' beads of unknown precise date and place of manufacture. Since ancient beads have been traded across the globe for centuries, all that can be said here is that these lovely beads were sourced in North Africa and might date back to Roman times. These earrings are long, measuring 60 mm or about 2.25\" and are nice to fiddle with since the beads rotate on their silver-plated pins and sit as they wish in a stack one upon the other in an informal fashion. The colours are just lovely and the photos do not really do these old beads justice. Every effort has been made to show you how they behave in different lights and no photographic enhancements have been used here. Weight each earring is circa 2.7 grams which is light to medium for earrings. The lower USA-imported oxidised silver-plated charm is very typical of classical Graeco/Roman art motifs seen frequently in archaeological museums and has a nice textured knobbly surface and slightly concave shape, see the photos with your zoom facility to enjoy the different translucence of the glass beads too.
