May be circa 1920, but could not absolutely verify.

Estate sale find.

This is a print of one of Howarth\'s etchingsdepicting the doorway of the Hospital de Santa Cruz, Toledo, a building startedin 1494 and constructed in the Spanish \'Plateresque\' architectural style.

Albany E. Howarth \'Albany Howarth\':An early twentieth century English architectural and landscape etcher andwater-colourist, Albany Howarth first worked as a drawing apprentice in theoffice of Armstrong, Whitworth. Beginning around 1905 he emerged as a majoretcher and frequently exhibited at such major venues as the Fine Arts Society,the Royal Academy and with the Royal Engravers. Albany Howarth was elected anAssociate of the Royal Engravers in 1910.

During his career, Albany E. Howarth etched manygreat architectural views in England, Italy and (most particularly) France. Asis here the case, he often combined etching with drypoint to achieve strongtonal effects. Many of his etchings during the 1920\'s were published by theFine Art Trade Guild, London, in editions of one hundred and fifty signedimpressions.

Condition: Print is mint and well protected by frame.Frame is in good shape, but black paintis worn to the wood on corners anda couple of places on face of frame. There is a ¼” chip along the bottom of thegold gilded edging.

Weight: 2lb 1oz in frame.
