This is an unusual printed fabric doll similar to the Art Fabric Mills type dolls. It is not common to find these dolls with sewn on additional clothing. This boy is dressed in a sailor type outfit in a dark navy blue with white collar and trim and wearing a matching hat. He has a wonderful face
The head and arms are stuffed with horsehair. The cloth on his arms and face have broken through in a few places and you can see the horsehair poking throughin those places which you can see in the pictures. There is a split in his trousers at the crotch and I can see through to straw stuffing there. There is a crunching soundwhen you pressthe torso, so I am presuming the torso is all stuffed that way and the legs could either be cotton stuffed or a combination with horsehair and cotton.
This would probably date to the late 1800s and is in fairly good condition for the age. The doll is able to sit nicely. Some of these dolls just have stiff legs and torsos.
