*2018 - Here Comes the GROOM - or Just the Best Dressed Man in the Room!!!*

Categories:

Luxury Jewelry; Men\'s Fine / Formal Dress Sets; Vest & Other Buttons; Designer Luxe: Tiffany & Co. / Carrington & Co.; 14k Solid Gold Jewelry; Mother-of-Pearl

Lot Includes:

A set of 4 dress buttons originally intended as vest buttons, but now used more widely as shirt adornment by the urbane, sophisticated gentleman. These amazingly collectible buttons come in their original case.

Composition:

Solid 14k yellow gold hardware and presentation - acid tested in multiple places (gently) by us, as always; White through violet spectrum mother-of-pearlinsets - absolutely stunning!

Date:

Circa 1920 (1915-1930) - Near the end of the Art Deco period

Signed?:

Yes.

Each button is signed with a \"14\" inside a squared \"C\" for Carrington & Company; The original box is signed on the inside of the lid in gold lettering, \"Tiffany & Co., New York, Paris, London.\" The box is additionally imprinted on the bottom, \"Tiffany & Co.,\" which is VERY hard to read, but present. All signatures/maker\'s marks are exactly what we would expect to find here, as Carrington & Co. based in London, U.K. was a supplier of men\'s luxury jewelry to Tiffany\'s during the early half of the 1900\'s (and much earlier, as well- see description).

Measurements:

Each of the four buttons measures 5/8 of an Inch in diameter, with their slip-backs (the hardware you would be inserting into a vest or shirt button-hole) running approximately one Inch. The button side is just 1/16th of an inch deep with the mother-of-pearl centers slightly inwardly convex in the center.

Features:

Incredible craftsmanship and ultra-posh elements make these dress buttons an incredible, rare find. The inset MOP is so fine that only a shimmer of violet and green show when examined in bright light, and each piece is crafted in rich, durable, solid 14k gold. The fact these are still in their original box means we have an excellent idea of the history behind this set, something most collectors enjoy.

We at Southwest By Suncoast are pleased to present these incredible, antique dress buttons, retailed by Tiffany & Company in the early part of the 1900\'s to you, our discriminating buyer. Crafted by Carrington & Co. of London, England sometime between 1915 and 1935, these fine buttons are comprised of solid 14k yellow gold (with a slight pink hue) and white mother-of-pearl. As you can see, the combination is exquisite. For your vest-wearing gentleman, or creative, urbane sir, these days fancy buttons can be used to dress up just about any garment. We recently even saw one of our high-end ladies wearing vintage dress buttons, mimicking her favorite female celebrity (think vests)! Fashion is in the eye of the beholder and when one has something this beautiful in their collection, one is going to want to show off.

Just as exciting as the buttons are, is the fact that these are still in their original dark blue Tiffany & Co. box. Since Tiffany & Co. had only three stores at the time, one in New York, one in London and one in Paris, and because all the wording is in English AND they were pawned in an American pawn store (we can tell by the pawn marks on the back of the buttons), we have an excellent idea of the when and where of this set. It is important to note that the buttons themselves were made by Carrington & Co. of London (established in 1780), but sold at only the most opulent stores - such as Tiffany\'s. Could these have been bought during the height of the \"jazz age\" and sold during the following great depression? We don\'t know, but if you are a lover of history and a good researcher, you may just be able to find out!

As mentioned in the condition notes, the buttons themselves are in very good shape, with the pawn characters on the back VERY lightly incised. One button does have a tiny area of damage to the MOP, only visible with a jeweler\'s loupe. The box has been roughed up a bit over the years, but still closes securely and retains its original imprints and internal gold lettering. At some point someone (maybe a flapper?) got some red (lipstick?) on the creamy velour inside the box, so be sure to check out all the pictures.

Because of our SMALL, FAMILY SELLER status, we are not accepting returns on this item, so please do ask any questions you have before offerding!
