This beautiful watch chain is from the Victorian/Edwardian era. It is made from fine 14kt gold-filled (or rolled gold as it is known in the UK / Walzgold or Doubleas it is known in Germany), and is in great order.

The chain weighs about 8 grams.

The decorative slide is1.5 cm x 1.2 cmand set with an natural opal and an ruby or garnet (I presume as these were commonly used). The slide runs on a cylinder along the chain and keeps it\'s position well.A tiny sliver of cork inserted in the cylinder helps keep the slide in place. Becausethe cork in old sliders is brittle or completely missing myjeweler hasthe cork replaces so that the slide hold securely on the chain and is good for an lot of years again.

This chain is approx 154cms, the links areapprox2mm. These lovely chains can be worn in several ways, festooned, doubled or wound around.

Ladies of the Victorian/Edwardian era wore these to hold accessories like timepieces or spectacles, today they make a great impact as a necklace, and with the Albert clasp at the front, it is easy to attach/detach lockets or fobs.
