From my compass collection: Here we have anAntique1800\'s Gentleman\'s Brass Domed Pocket Sundial Compass Calendar. This RARE, interesting, 1800\'s, possibly 1700\'s, instrument is contained in a Brass Dome topped box with a push fit lid. The lid is nicely ringed with fine knurling. When opened, you find a sundial in the base witha revolving disc and centrally located Brass Gnome. The disc is marked with the points of a compass and Roman Numerals for indicating the time. The disc and be removed, as I have shown, and is has very old script writing and some material for balancing the disc. Inside the lid is a series of paper divisions printed with the months of the year. The center circle in the lid is marked: Fast Means That The Clock Should Be Faster Than The Dial, Slow, Slower. Each month on the calendar is then annotated with the days that are Fast or Slow. There is a sliding brass plate on the side of the base that looks like is was at one time attached to possibly a disc locking lever. Overall diameter is 1-7/8\" and it is 1-1/8\" tall.No owner\'s marks.
THIS IS ANAUTHENTIC ANTIQUE!! NOT A REPONice, unique, and rare sundial - compass for your collection! You will probably not see another one any time soon.
