Antique James Monroe Indian Peace medal, dated 1817. The medal has a silver finish, designed by \"Furste\".Front reads \"James Monroe President Of The U.S.A. A.D.1817\". The back reads \"Peace and Friendship\" with 2 shaking hands below a crossed peacepipe and tomahawk.
Measuresapprox. 3\" across x 3/8\" thick. Weighs a little over 7 oz.
I see many on line that appear to be reproductions. But this looks to be the real deal.Purchased at a very high end LA estate sale as part of a collection of peace medals, that had been appraised a number of times over the years by very reputable appraisers. However was not given the appraisals when I purchased them.
Condition is as seen in the pictures.
