GermanLowbrow China Doll

Height: 25” tall

Marks: none, made in Germany

Age:c1870s-mid 1880s

DollDetails:

Thisweek we have a small but quite varied collection of black and blonde haired lowbrow china dolls from a collector who specialized in Hertwig andother early German dolls. This is the best of the best- a simply gorgeous, early highbrow lady with a rare blue and red molded necklace!

ThisGerman lady is a beauty, with a very deep shoulderplate with sloped shoulders and great curly hair and high forehead- the back of the hair is particularly fine, with rows and rows of symmetrical locks of hair. The molded \'bead\' necklace is meant to represent a fine strand of pearls alternating with blue beads, strung on a double row of red \'strings\', with a larger \'pearl\' as the center pendant- very, very fine, and we have not seen another precisely like this in all our years of sales.

Herface is quite striking, with a lovely symmetrical center part hairstyle with fine white part line. Her face has brightly painted pink cheeks, a beestung pinkheart mouth with greatly upturned smile line, bright sky blue eyes with black and red lid lines, very well defined eyelids, and small black pupils, red \'circle\' nostril dots, and very thinlong one-stroke symmetrical black brows- these are reallynice. Her expression is quite cheery and serene, as you can see. She has a tiny factory rough edge to the edge of her shoulderplate, but the head and shoulderplate have no chips or cracks. Slight paintloss as is so often found on back of hair. She isn\'t marked that we can see as to maker, but wesuspect she\'s by one of the better firms, possiblyy Hertwig. Verydelicately painted, her head has beautiful bright white china.

Her sawdust or excelsior stuffed corset waist muslin body is the original owner made body, with many repairs to the seams over the years. Someone in the past has made her a darling new set of leather hands with very finely stitched fingers; made of glove leather, these probably date to c1940s or so and are likely copies of the original (probably leather too) hands. Her vintage petticoat and red belt are sewn to the body. Slight dust and vintage dirt to crevices as to be expected.

CostumeDetails:

Dress: A really charming handmade sateen print dress, probably made for the doll of earlier 1930s dress scraps; c1940s era, all handsewn

Undergarments: two different antique petticoats, antique chemise with cap sleeves and antique fancy pantaloons with lace; obviously madefor the doll from earlier antique materials; some wear to lace, stains and fading, c1900s-20s eras.

Stockings: nice knit black doll socks, c1960s

Shoes: vintage velveteen tall doll boots with laces, c1960s

A very pretty girlie- very fancy indeed!

Kindly Take a Moment and Read This Before offerding:

Marionettejilly is not a big ol\' corporation. We are actually pretty nice folks, with an interest in antiques, fighting upstream against inflation and the economy just like everyone else. In the rare event that there is a problem with an item, just sit back, take a deep breath, and tell us about it calmly. We have not set out to scam you. Chill. All the policies below are just because a couple of folks in the past decided to be meanies. We know you\'re not like that- we certainly aren\'t.

Here at Marionettejilly, we try to be accurate with our descriptions- but we aren’t perfect, and we may have missed something that’s important to you-- so ask before an sale ends! We sell mostly vintage and antique items, with wear and the ravages of time as to be expected.

Do not expect our vintage items to be in new or like new condition- many of our items are fragile, played with, and many are over 100 years old.

AND---- many of our items have been in storage for years,so if you are allergic to dust, or sensitive to certain scents or smells, we do not recommend purchasing vintage items.Use your own good common sense, and expect an item to have a unique patina and history all its own- with imperfections inherent in antique pieces!

Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 10am to 5 pm, Eastern Standard Time. We cannot answer emails unless they come through the message system- this protects both parties. Emails received after these hours will be answered as promptly as is possible on the next business day. Please do not expect a response during the weekend- with any luck we are out doing something fun, far far away from the computer!

Quick, Now! Read Our Refund Policy BEFORE You offer:

If you are unhappy with any item for any reason, it may of course be returned for a full refund of purchase price and original shipping within fourteen days of original shipping date, minus a standard 15% restocking fee, unless the item is one of the few we designate as a \'No Returns\' item. Please note International returns are for purchase price only.

We do not pay return shipping regardless of the reason for return.

Forgive us if we sound somewhat exasperated at this point in time, but just so there is no possible misunderstanding of our policy, we repeat:

We do not pay return shippingregardless of the reason for return.

does not support buyers\' requests for return shipping- please do not ask.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT OFFER PARTIAL REFUNDS FOR ANY REASON.

There are no exceptions to this policy, and we will report unscrupulous buyers.

Our shipping represents not only postage but also time, gas, packing materials, and, as of July 2011, the 7.5% Final Value Fee that charges to shipping. We do flat rate shipping so that buyers know in advance what shipping will be before a offer is placed; please be aware that we do not barter about shipping once an item has ended.

And, as a final note to the patient people who have bothered to read everything so far: Sorry if we sound crabby. Sometimes people can be so petty and unreasonable it can break your heart. We\'ve had a run of really awful experiences this season- let\'s hope it ends soon, before we lose the rest of our hair, our jolly perspective on life in general, and our much-needed sense of humor!!!
