Antique 1877 Victorian/Edwardian 2.5 CTW Diamond & Ruby BandRing in 18k Yellow Gold

This 139 year old 18k yellow gold diamondand ruby ring was handcrafted in London in 1877. This ring would compliment either a man or a woman. Each of the round *Old European Cut diamonds are approx. **35 - 40 points each, they are multi-faceted(a lot of BLING) and are prong and star set on each side of a deep dark Round GarnetCabochon which measures 7.7 mm. diameter approx. 1.80 CT (using a diamond guide/sizer). The Garnet Cab usinga 10X jeweler’s loop looks smooth with only finding one barely noticeablescratch. Not seen by eye.

Thispiece is fully hallmarked, and contains a maker’s mark thatreads “W.P” over “C.B” in a square shape. Fully Hallmarked with: A “crown” for England, the number “18” forkarat, a “leopard’s head” for the London Assay Office and finally the letteryear code “B” meaning 1877.

The letter year code ‘B’ is also marked on one of theoutside shoulders of this ring.

This ring weighs a HEAVY 6.6 grams and has been professionally cleaned and polished bringingit back to its original 18 karat luster.

*OldEuropean Cut

Theold European diamond has a very small table, a heavy crown, and great overalldepth. This diamond cut was the fore-runner of the modern brilliant cut. Likethe modern round brilliant, the old European diamond has a circular girdle.

**CaratWeight, Color and Clarity

The Diamond & Garnet carat weight calculation used in thissale was by using a diamond sizing guide/ tool against the circumference ofthe girdle. Without taking this ring apart there is no better way I can gaugethem. They may be over or under 40 points each as with antique diamond handcutting they were cut to maximize the carat. You will note with these diamondsin hand and using a jeweler’s loop they seem to be oddly cut though the color andclarity seem to be extremely fine. I don’t see any flaws or coloration (even with being in a yellow gold setting!); by eyethey appear clear, clean and white. Using a 10X jeweler’s loop I’m not sure ifI’m seeing a few inclusions or if it’s the irregular cuts the cutter made. Please use the zoom feature to see for yourself.

This is a rare antique beautiful ring of heirloom quality that while a woman could easily wear this it would make an excellent wedding band for a man; especially if her engagement ring is vintage or vintage inspired.
