This is a fabulous, rare,Arts and Crafts, 1892, silver topped, whiskey Flagon by Hukinand Heath,exquisite spiralflutedbottle, silver angled hinged lid and collar, tapered cork stopper with Hukin and Heath silver whiskey Flagon label designed by Dr Christopher Dresser.

It\'s a truly stunning piece ofworkmanship, fully hallmarkedand made by \'Hukin and Heath\',anchor assay mark for Birmingham, with the date letterS for 1892. Considering thisfabulous flask is121 yearsold it\'s in fantastic original condition,with no dents, splits or damage tothe silver or cut glass.What\'s interestingis a tiny glass airbubble trapped inthe base proving it was made withhand blown glass, alsosomebeautiful age relatedpatinatothe silver, commensuratewith121 years of age. The silver Hukin and Heath Flagon label is slightly later in date hallmarked London again with the date letter S for 1913.

Hukin and Heath ....

Manufacturing silversmiths established in Birmingham in 1855. In 1875 the firm entered its mark in Birmingham Assay Office, while in 1879 the founders Jonathan Wilson Hukin and John Thomas Heath entered their mark in London Assay Office. The firm was active at Imperial Works, Great Charles Street, Birmingham and in the showrooms at 19 Charterhouse Street, London. J.T. Hukin retired in 1881 and in 1886 J.T. Heath continued the partnership with John Hartsghorne Middleton. In 1904 the business was converted into a limited liability company under the style Hukin & Heath Ltd finally closing in 1953.The firm is well known for its production in the late 19th century, of silver and electroplated wares under the guidance of Dr. Christopher Dresser.

Dr Christopher Dresser (1834-1904)

Adesigner and design theorist, now widely known as one of the first and most important, independent, designers and was a pivotal figure in the Aesthetic Movement, and a major contributor to the allied Anglo-Japanese or Modern English style. Among the first independent industrial designers, Dr Christopher Dresser championed design reform in19th century Britainwhile embracing modern manufacturingin the development of wallpapers,textiles, ceramics, glass, furniture and metalwork. Towards the end of Dr Christopher Dresser’s life, a tributedescribed him as “perhaps the greatest of commercial designers, imposing his fantasy and invention upon the ordinary output of British industry.”
