Antique 1894 Victorian Small STERLING REPOUSSE Cane Handle Birmingham, England:
$19.99
This is an antique, late-VictorianEra (dated 1894), small-size (lady’s or child’s), STERLING silver REPOUSSE caneor walking stick handle, made in Birmingham, England. It is hallmarked with asideways ANCHOR, a date letter “U” and a LION. (The “U” is in the Old Englishfont, inside a square cartouche with flattened corners, which I am pretty sureis for the year 1894.) I don’t see a maker’s mark or initials.
The grip part of the handleis just under 3 inches long and 5/8 of an inch in diameter. The repousse silverpart is 4 inches long. The total length (with the wood piece and the silverband) is 6-¾ inches.
The repousse work is all handdone. There is an oval in the pattern for a monogram, but it was neverengraved. It would make a nice accessory for a Victorian doll or a Steiff bear.
(PLEASE SEE ALL PHOTOS andfeel free to ask any questions.) The silver has a beautiful, untouched patina. There’s no wear in the pattern, so it was not handled very often, so it wasprobably never used as a walking stick.
