Great Late 18th Early 19th Century Adjustable Candleholder

This form is a great representation to the art of period blacksmithing work, and in itself just a gem of a period candleholder.

A piece such as this would have been hammered into the beam or mortar of an early home to support a single candle via the rolled iron formed-in candle cup on the end socket. Note the candle-cup has a formed over edge lip, a nice little design element added by the blacksmith.

Once hammered into a beam or wall via the end spike, the piece would have been adjusted to suit the users need, being moved about by the center rivet, that even has a small catch to it allowing it to only move 180 degrees.

From age there is some slight pitting to the piece.
