Antique 19.c. French Large Rococo Regency Gilt Mirror Ormolu, Gesso, Wood:
$3200.00
Part of a living estate being liquidated in northern Colorado.
Here is what I know: This mirror has been in the family for 90-100 years and was brought from France.
This was a military family who lived all over Europe, and acquired quite a few interesting antiques.
I will do my best to describe this item as accurately as possible, but if you have any more questions feel free to ask.
Mirror measures: 51in long x 23.5in across.
It features Oromolu flowers hanging from the top, gesso carving, and wood backing. the central motif is flowers- flowers medallions, carvings, ormolu flowers, as well as acorns and oak leaf branches and a column with a banner framing the top.
There is a layer of red underneath the gilt overlay (I\'m wondering if this was a type of primer they used). Before I knew the provenance, I had thought it looked Italian because of the red.
It is not in perfect condition--I made sure to photograph all notable flaws, including cracking in the gesso and two chipped pieces near the bottom.
The mirror itself is in perfect condition- to my knowledge they have never had it replaced.
For an item of this age-it is absolutely stunning in person.
When I look up the French mirror styles, this matches Louis XV, Rococo and Regency.
